European Capital of Culture 2010 |

Budapest was preparing to run for the status of European Capital of Culture
in 2010. The Budapest Observatory participated in the tender and Péter
Inkei (director of the Budapest Observatory) was the Project Leader.
And we did not succeed.
The Hungarian government, upon the recommendation of an international
selection committee, selected the city of Pécs.
BO wishes them success.
The City of Budapest,
however, has approached the team that prepared the project, asking them
to keep together and make a proposal about those elements of the tender
that can be realised later on. One target being the spring of 2011, when
Hungary is foreseen as fulfilling the role of Presidency of the European
