This project is supported by Unesco.
The draft
programme for 2000-2001 of Unesco contained the following words: "Identification
and sharing of 'best practice' in innovative thinking in cultural policy-making
and implementation." This, among others, has served to the launching of
our project. Inspiration has been and will be taken from similar undertakings.
Objectives
To identify cases
of innovative financing of culture in East-Central Europe, and to put
them on display in a virtual "portrait gallery". Besides offering international
acknowledgment for a few successful innovators, the aim is to learn about
relevant mechanisms of financing culture via specific cases.
Information
for authors of future profiles
Size of profile
Between 3000 - 4500
words, 7-9 pages.
Structure of profile
- Main reason for
inclusion into the collection of the Budapest Observatory
- Presentation of
project in case
- Description of
financing
Criteria
- Ingenuous ways
of financing the creation of added cultural value: be it an institution,
an event or a production. This should by all means be more than just
raising funds successfully. All elements of financing, including various
categories of income, sponsorship, grants, economies in expenses, etc
should be taken into consideration.
- Possibility of
regular updating.
- The case should
bear relevance for other projects in the region.
Procedure
Proposals are welcome
in the form of a simple e-mail message. The main features of the case offered
for display should be pointed out. In evaluating the proposal there will
be two main guiding principles.
- Correspondence
with the criteria as described above.
- Attempts will
be made that the collection should be as much as possible representative
by branch of culture, country, type of financing etc.
Upon adoption a written
agreement will be made between the BO and the author of the profile.
Display
Apart from BO archives
the primary display will be this BO web site. Printed versions and extracts
are envisaged for the future.
